The most strategic investment we can make in the future of a child in Uganda is their education.
To navigate a culture of survival and emerge from a cycle of poverty a child needs access to opportunities only afforded by an education. Uganda does not offer free education to its citizens and those who cannot afford an education remain excluded from the very career paths, resources, and opportunities they need to develop sustainable independence.
When a child is sponsored, the whole family benefits. When tuition costs are covered, families are able to allocate income towards food, health, and essential household supplies. Often an educated child can share knowledge and learning materials with other siblings, family members, and the community. The sponsorship of a child is a time of celebration for a family and a community. When you make a donation to child sponsorship at Hands of Love your donation will be used for covering tuition costs for the hundreds of children we have committed to support.
By covering tuition costs, we make an education accessible to children who otherwise do not have access to one. These costs vary depending on the school, the grade level of the child, and whether the child requires boarding or day-school. For a child in our program to complete Primary 1 through Senior 6, the average cost over the entire term is $50 per month. University costs also vary depending on the school and the program of study. If a student is able to complete S6 and attain admission into a university program, we are committed to the sponsorship through completion of the first degree. We also support students who pursue vocational training after their secondary education through completion of the training program.
We partner with Christian schools. Uganda is a land of many religions and schools reflect that diversity. We work with schools that empower all students but educate from a distinctly Christian world-view. Our team has a relationship with the administration of each school and has access to checking on the welfare and progress of every child in our sponsorship program. Sponsors who travel to Uganda can also visit our schools with our staff and get a first-hand look at the environment our children experience.
Through sponsorship, your child will receive:
- A safe place to be educated
- Nutritious meals while at school
- A school uniform on a scheduled basis
- A bed, mattress, and mosquito net when at boarding school
- Basic hygiene products, including soap and toothbrushes if their family is unable to provide
- Basic medical and dental care on an as needed basis if their family is unable to provide
- Spiritual (Christ-centered) training and regular mentorship and discipleship sessions
- Access to Christian Leaders for counseling as needed
In return for your sponsorship, you will receive:
• Information about your child, which includes: date of birth, history, and
their favorite things
• An updated picture of your child once per year
• Updates and/or letters from your child at least twice per year
• The opportunity to send your child letters and gifts
• Monthly ministry updates from Hands of Love USA
