Most girls in Uganda have been taught from an early age that their only purpose in life is to marry a polygamous man and produce children.girlcare  In Ugandan culture, girls are typically not considered worthy of education and are considered marriageable as young as 12. This leaves these mere children trapped in polygamous marriages with no sense of value. Even worse, many of these uneducated teenagers are abandoned before they reach adulthood, leaving them with no way to meet the basic needs of their young children. This oppressive belief system not only perpetuates an endless cycle of generational poverty, but leaves these young women hopeless and desperate.

At Hands of Love, we’re breaking this cycle of despair by rescuing young women from the streets, meeting their basic needs, and speaking the hope of Christ into their lives. They are nurtured by a loving staff, taught about their great worth in Christ, and empowered to become Biblically-grounded, responsible adults.

How Can I Help?

Through our $40/month Basic Needs Sponsorships, our girls’ basic needs, including toiletries, clothing and bedding, are met. However, because our younger children are often chosen for sponsorship before our older students, many of our teenage girls remain unsponsored. Without the prayers and support of American ‘parents,’ a teenage girl is at greater risk of leaving Hands of Love for a man who is promising marriage. Additionally, this shortage of sponsorship money leaves our older girls with an inadequate supply of undergarments and feminine hygiene products.

If you would like to partner with us to care for our precious girls, we are in need of sponsors, missionaries and donations toward Female Hygiene Kits.
